In this role you will provide leadership, consultation, and best practices for architecture across several different Business Segments and Application Development Teams. You will be a key contributor on architectural decisions related to segment initiatives ensuring they align to compliance standards and with target enterprise architecture vision. You will need a broad knowledge that expands disciplines and the ability to listen and quickly understand the functional areas of the bank. Additionally, this role is responsible for ensuring critical applications are optimized for high availability and disaster recovery. This role reports to a Director of Technology.


  • Leads or assists in architecture design on moderate to complex business segment initiatives

  • Designs cost effective, efficient, and scalable solutions
  • Facilitates the evaluation and selection of software products and services, along with design of standards and custom software configurations
  • Helps define technology roadmap strategy for applications and platforms
  • Aligns IT strategy with business goals
  • Responsible for integration and connectivity feasibility, security of data in transit and in storage
  • Collaborates with Information Security, Networking and Architecture personnel to design solutions that are compliant in meeting First National’s technology and security standards and policies
  • Actively participates in Architectural Guild to develop and govern software policies, standards, and procedures
  • Actively participates in initiative planning, including high level design, estimates, and identification of cross team/application dependencies
  • Monitors current state environment and identifies opportunities through technology shifts or shifting business requirements
  • Participates in vendor and product evaluations
  • Leads conversations with business, technical, security and vendor stakeholders to establish, prioritize and refine architectural requirements
  • Works efficiently on several initiatives and projects at once
  • Provides architectural support to Application Development Teams implementing assigned initiatives
  • Partners with Application Development Teams/technical lead(s) to provide working proof of concepts
  • Works with various levels of business and technical personnel which may include formal presentations to Senior Leadership
  • Mentors Lead Developers/technical leads

  • Excellent ability to convey information both verbally and written
  • Systems and application development including design, development, execution, and support
  • Ability to assess current technology environments to identify and document opportunities and gaps, including modernization of legacy systems
  • Strong understanding of network topologies
  • Integration technologies and architecture such as SOA, API, and Microservices
  • Experience in cloud-based compute, database, storage, and networking solutions
  • Experience in the banking/financial services industry preferred
  • Experience in mainframe application modernization is a plus


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computers Science, MIS, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 8-10 years development experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a Solution Architect/Lead Developer/Tech Lead role
  • AWS or Cloud experience
