The second of CRi’s favorite holiday traditions in Omaha is one that truly sets the tone for the holiday season in the Metro.
The Holiday Lights Festival is a staple of Omaha holiday tradition. Dating back to 1999, the festival occurs each year bringing holiday spirit to the Metro. The Gene Leathy Mall is the center of the attraction and is located on Douglas and Farnam Streets between 10th and 13th Streets. With its location surrounding the Old Market and Downtown area, it is the perfect celebration of the season for the whole family.
Downtown Omaha is the ultimate destination for holiday sights and activities. The lights begin with a ceremony the night of Thanksgiving and can be enjoyed through January 1. Within that time frame, Sounds of the Season occurs every Saturday until December 23 from 7 to 8pm. The holiday music showcase features performances from local talent at different outdoor locations throughout the mall.
No matter the age, the Holiday Lights Festival is a timeless tradition that brings family and friends together.
