The holiday season is one of family, giving, and tradition. The unusually warm weather and lack of snow may have some feeling a bit off. To get in the spirit we will be sharing some favorite holiday traditions cherished by many in the Omaha area.
The first to be featured is one of the most celebrated traditions in the Metro, the NRG Energy Ice Rink in the Capitol District – 10th & Capitol Ave. Formerly known as the ConAgra Foods Ice Rink which was located in the heart of the ConAgra campus in Downtown Omaha, the rink acquired a new name and home but still holds the same beloved holiday cheer. Founded in 2009, the rink provides an exciting family attraction. It is a place for families and friends to gather surrounded by music, lights, (sometimes falling) and all around fun. The atmosphere is nothing short of festive and simply contagious with laughter from all ages. Admission is $8 plus tax and while some bring their own skates, a skate rental is included in admission cost.
The rink may have a new name and location this year, but the cause remains the same. Food Bank for the Heartland will receive a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Shine the Light on Hunger campaign. Plan to attend? Bring along friends, family and non-perishable food items to help families in need.
